The Art of a Thriller Halloween

I just love Halloween! So my post is late but I'm busy working full-time, working on my new jewelry collection as well as being the best mom, partner & friend I can be. I have been wanting to do this couples costume idea for 3 years but my man wasn't down to do it. Boo to him! Good thing I have another man that will do it; although unwillingly...my son.;-) I know Halloween is for the kids, so not to take away from what my son wanted to be I asked that we compromise so Mommy could just check this costume idea off her list. Fair enough?

This was a DIY project as blue leopard print (when in need) seems more difficult to come by. I lucked up and found some inexpensive leggings on ebay as I had exhausted my search online and in thrift stores deciding to order two pairs of the leggings to use one to attach on my jean jacket.

Simply applying glue and safety pins because I was too lazy to break out the sewing machine.

My son, like every other boy in the world wanted to be a superhero "Superman" and I told him that was boring everyone is superman you have to be Michael Jackson. Was I wrong for saying that? LOL I figured if I show him the thriller video I think he could get into this Thriller themed Halloween with me. Well, he got into it enough to only do the dance but as you can see from the pictures he wasn't feeling the costume so much.

I love to shop but sometimes I find it hard to purchase something when I know I can make it myself at a lesser cost. My boyfriend calls me cheap but so what. :-P I'm not ashamed to admit that I am frugal with my money; it goes hand in hand since I am crafty I don't mind taking time to do it myself. I saw this cute vintage inspired twistable headband at American Apparel. It came in solid colors as well as some cute vintage patterns for a retail price of $14.

Like I said...I couldn't bring myself to spend $14 on a headband when I know darn well I can make it. I went ahead that very day to get a spool of 18 gauge wire for $3.25 as I already have scraps of fabric at home, a sewing machine and wire cutter.

If you don't have a sewing machine at home a needle and thread will do. The sewing machine my grandma gave me sure comes in handy! Voila! Low and behold my very own twistable vintage inspired headband for only $3.25 and I have extra wire left to make more.




Doing it yourself sure can save you in the long run!

Out with the old and in with the new.

This picture below was taken back in October 2005. It was halloween so don't worry the knife is fake but I'm cutting up fashion. I have owned this vest for 5 years now. In my attempt to wear the vest I picked up my son and he pulled one of the buttons off and it broke once it hit the floor. I didn't want to get rid of the vest because I felt it was a timeless piece in my closet but I sure couldn't walk around with one obvious button missing. Months passed by and I happened to stumble upon a store that sales buttons and I saw these really cool ones I thought would go perfect with my 5 year old vest. I also saw a few cool patches to add on the shoulders to spice up the vest and give it a little more edge. For some reason whenever I cut my hair I feel more edgy and fashion forward. Anyhow, below are the pictures of my vest transformation. Enjoy!

The original cost of the vest was $39 and I spent another $45 on buttons and patches. I could've gotten some cheaper buttons but that's exactly

how it would've looked....cheap. These were the perfect match would you agree?
