The Art of Balance.

After talking with friends about life and being a working mom, I have to admit it is quite a challenge to do it all. I find myself drifting a lot from one thing to another...my focus needs to be corrected. I allowed doubt and excuses to put things off but there is no room for that in my life. I am surrounded by people that encourage me and set great examples. Everyday I am inspired by people like my friend Leslie who is a mother of 3 and has managed to be consistent and dedicated to her blog. Not only that, Leslie has created a way for other bloggers all over to collaborate and support one another. This builds a since of community and encouragement. I feel me having one child can't even compare. I am eternally grateful for people who stop at nothing to pursue their goals and do a damn good job at it. Here is to being up for the challenge and putting my best foot forward everyday. I am not putting myself down in anyway as I know I have had some amazing accomplishments. The fact of the matter is acknowledging what needs improvement as I strive for perfection in my ability to balance. #BLMGirl

The Art of The Vote.

As we approach election day it is crucial for us all to watch this docu-series. Two friends of mine, a brother and sister team are founders of Barack the Vote. All of their hard work has paid off tremendously as they are included in BET's docu-series. They are an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others to be the voice for the youth in politics while setting a business example. They give entrepreneurs like myself hope for a better tomorrow.

The Art of McQueen!

Alexander McQueen was a genius! His designs were more than just fashion; they were a work of ART! No other words can describe his talent. See for yourself...

Presenting Alexander McQueen at the Met.

Pictures below are from latimes.com

His legacy lives on. This exhibit is a must see. Extremely dark with extravagant avant garde bodies of work. Running through July 31, 2011 "Savage Beauty" features more than 100 ensembles and 70 accessories covering his 16-year career, from the majestic to the macabre. Clothing spans from his 1992 Central St. Martins postgraduate collection based on Jack The Ripper, to the final runway collection, "Angels and Demons," presentated after his death in February 2010, and steeped in religious imagery.

Work Ethics

In any business you have to have a set of values based on hard work and diligence. This includes being reliable, taking initiative and maintaining social skills while setting and executing your goals. When you say you are going to do something have follow through. If you run into obstacles keep in communication so people don't think you are flaky. After all, nobody wants to feel like their time is being wasted as it is much to valuable. Get the job done. With that said I was asked to get backings for my earrings to better display them for sell at the boutique. I got right on it and quickly planned out what I could do to come up with a creative earring card holder that will make my pieces stand out. All the while I kept the manager of the store abreast of my plan, when I ordered, when I received and my finishing touch. The day I received my business cards I was in the store setting up my displays. I wasn't playing around because time waits for no man or woman. Here are a few visuals so you can see what I did. I added gemstones like I said I would on the card to enhance the elegance of the cards appearance. Being Regal is what my line is all about.

Elie Tahari has an inspirational story. Born in Jerusalem and sent to an orphanage after his parents divorced and later to an Israeli Air Force boarding school in Haifa; he managed to migrate to the US as an electrician. He moved to New York and sought work in the Garment District sleeping nights at a YMCA or the benches of Central Park. He learned about the retail business while selling clothes at a boutique in Greenwich Villiage. Elie then began to design women's fashion inspired by the NYC nightclub scene. Tahari became one of the first fashion designers to open a boutique on Madison Avenue in 1974. Today Elie Tahari is an American luxury designer for men and women with his clothing gracing five continents, more than 6,000 US stores and in five free-standing boutiques. That's a long way to come from sleeping in YMCA's and on park benches. Today model's wore t-shirts expressing love for ET as he cut the ribbon to the new lay of the ET shop in Saks Fifth Ave.

The art of entrepreneurship

As a child I imagined my career to come with ease. I believed that I would have success at the palm of my hands once I reached adulthood. Now that I am thirty I do not have the career I envisioned. I ask myself what defines my success? Well, I have been pursuing many passions for many years. Some may say focus on one thing at a time but I find it hard to do so when I have been blessed with several creative outlets that allow me to breath life through. In all my thirty years I've learned that not everyone is going to be a man or woman of their word. Everything isn't always what it seems. There are crabs in a barrel out there. Some people are only in it for what benefits them. And if you aren't a star over night nobody wants anything to do with you. I've also realized the stars over night don't shine too long but those that have a story to tell have a long lasting career. If it takes time then you will appreciate it when it's ripe. I am currently working on establishing myself as a designer. The world can be so critical at times and when you choose a career where you are competing with unbelievable numbers you have to set yourself apart from the rest. Now is not the time to throw a pity party or get down and out on my "luck". What is luck compared to faith in yourself and God? If God gave it to you he wants you to use it. Someday I will own my own boutique with not only my pieces but other designers as well. Friend or foe whatever you are to me you have to go out and fulfill your hearts desires. You have to chase your dreams because they aren't going to chase you. I strive for entrepreneurship because like the french meaning "one who undertakes innovations" I do consider myself an innovator. So to answer my own question, being an innovator is what defines me and will be the backbone to what defines my success.

The art of recycling

In my first blog entry I shared with you an old vest that I lost the button to and how I replaced it with new buttons as well as adding patches. This morning on the Today show they are showing you how to turn trash into treasure. Watch it for a few more tips as they are showing how to recycle trash into fashion. If you missed it I'm sure there's a clip on youtube. You no longer have to throw away articles of clothing that have snags or are unable to fit. Some of us like to hold onto clothes but now you can recycle them by giving them a new purpose.
